Yvonne Steingerby said staff expect to open the Green Our City program in the fall and will limit placements to the number of trees the city can realistically plant. "We'll probably pick a date to open the program and, limit it to the certain amount of trees that we're able to actually plant," she said. Applications will require an arborist drive-by inspection to confirm sufficient easement for a street tree.
Commission members noted that Green Space previously played a more hands-on planting role; under current staffing, parks staff will manage planting and the commission’s role is more focused on education and outreach. Members agreed to discuss the program further in September to finalize staffing support and volunteer roles for planting events scheduled for October.
