At the Jan. 20 Borough Council meeting Mayor Louann Cox publicly recognized the Washington Borough Green Team for achieving Sustainable Jersey Bronze Certification for 2025–2028.
Members reported grant activity: Josephine Noone received paid invoices and will complete the final paperwork for a $2,000 Washington Public Library Wildlife Habitat Garden grant in February. Kristy Romanowski wrote a $10,000 PSEG Creative Placemaking grant and the Green Team provided a letter of support; Brian Bond will draft a Borough Council resolution of support that the Council needs to approve before March 16. Kristy will provide a grant summary to Mayor Cox for Council review.
The minutes also recorded outreach steps toward National Wildlife Federation (NWF) community wildlife habitat certification: the borough has 19 certified wildlife habitats, and the Green Team is recruiting additional homeowners and businesses to reach the 150 points needed for community certification. Josephine ordered literature for distribution at several upcoming events.
