Rosemont board approves 20-by-60-foot digital billboard at Fire Station 1

The Village of Rosemont Zoning Board of Appeals on Dec. 3 unanimously approved a text amendment and a special use permit enabling Image Media to place a digital billboard on the Rosemont Fire Station 1 property at 5800 River Road.

Thomas Walsh of Image Media told the board the digital billboard would measure 20 feet by 60 feet, sit roughly 40 feet above the grade of the Tollway for an overall height of about 65 feet from the bottom of grade, and would be constructed onsite in approximately five days. Walsh said approvals from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) are required before Image Media submits a permit application to the Village.

The board first approved findings of fact and then approved the text amendment and special use permit in separate motions. The findings of fact motion was moved by David Houston and seconded by Larry Cullerton; the text amendment motion was moved by David Houston and seconded by Larry Cullerton; the special use permit motion was moved by Augie Sansone Jr. and seconded by Larry Cullerton. Each motion was carried by unanimous vote of the four members present (Christopher Stephens, Larry Cullerton, David Houston, Augie Sansone Jr.). Chairman Ronald Holtman was absent.

Next steps called for Image Media to secure the IDOT and FAA approvals noted at the meeting; the Village indicated those approvals must be in hand prior to submitting the permit application to Rosemont. No public opposition or additional conditions were recorded in the minutes.
