Hays council authorizes up to $500,000 WSIG application to fund AMI meters

The City of Hays council voted unanimously to authorize submission of a Water Supply and Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) application to the Texas Water Development Board seeking financial assistance not to exceed $500,000 to fund advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) meters and related engineering.
City staff said GrantWorks provided the resolution language and that the application materials must be filed before the July 30 deadline. "Application, filing, and authorized representative resolution... seeking financial assistance in an amount not to exceed $500,000 to provide for the cost of water system improvements," one staff reader said as the council read the resolution into the record. A council member moved to accept the resolution, another seconded, and the motion passed unanimously.
City staff told the council they narrowed the project scope to meters and immediate engineering needs after initially exploring recoupment of earlier expenditures. Staff also identified GrantWorks and Freeland Herc Engineering as partners for administrative and engineering services in the application packet.
