Royal ISD trustees approve superintendent evaluation, contract, emergency operations plan and a settlement in personnel litigation

After convening in executive session, the Royal ISD Board reconvened and took several actions in open session. Trustee Cori Vahalik moved to approve the superintendent's summative evaluation and the motion passed. Vahalik also moved approval of the superintendent's contract; that contract motion passed with Trustee Elton Foster recorded as "Abstain."
The board approved the Emergency Operations Plan on a motion by Vahalik. The board also approved a settlement agreement resolving litigation styled Royal ISD v. Israel Chandler before a TEA Independent Hearing Examiner, explicitly rescinding the proposed termination and suspension without pay of Israel Chandler and delegating authority to the superintendent to effectuate the settlement. Trustees voted to approve employee contracts as recommended by administration. The minutes record the settlement motion: "Motion to approve the settlement agreement as written and discussed in closed session resolving litigation matter Royal ISD v. Chandler ... and rescind the proposed termination and suspension without pay of Israel Chandler. I further move to delegate authority to the Superintendent to take whatever actions are necessary to effectuate same."
