Board raises substitute teacher pay to $150 per day to attract candidates

The Woodland Park Board approved an increase in the daily rate for substitute teachers from $125 to $150 during its Oct. 7 workshop meeting (agenda item 225-136), adopting the change by an 8-0 roll call. MaryAnn Perro asked how Woodland Park's rate compared to surrounding districts; Dr. Pillari said at $125 the district had been among the lowest and that the increase is intended to attract candidates.
Business Administrator Dwayne Ortiz added that "the $150 rate is the highest we could go based on our budget." The motion was moved by Shannon Marren and seconded by Kim Galbraith. The board asked the finance committee to consider related budget implications in future planning.
