Board highlights 'bell‑to‑bell' cell‑phone bans; Techwell presentation planned

President Cardi told the board that several local school boards have enacted policies restricting student cell‑phone use during the school day and that the measures are coming to more campuses in the county.
"They put their cell phones in a Velcro pouch and I'm very proud of my foundation. . . and that means they are screen free from bell to bell," Cardi said, pointing to Goleta Valley Junior High and La Colina as early adopters. He said the board expects a presentation by Techwell to explain the education and advocacy behind the movement.
Cardi framed the policy as a welcome addition for junior high campuses and noted that rollout to other schools (Lock, Lacombe Junior High and Santa Barbara Junior High) is on tap for the next year. The board did not take action on the floor; the item was a preview of an upcoming staff or vendor presentation.
