Council reviews Southern Brevard Trails Master Plan update; no funding committed

Town Manager Lisa Morrell briefed the council on the Southern Brevard Trails Master Plan (SBTMP) final phase. Morrell said Palm Bay is pursuing paved multiuse pathways while Grant/Valkaria favors unpaved trails; because federal grants typically prioritize paved corridors, unpaved segments may not qualify for federal funding. The SCTPO plans to present an interlocal agreement that covers planning participation only and will not include construction funding.
Council members discussed whether the SCTPO or member municipalities would seek grant funding in the future and noted that any project requiring town matching funds would come back to council for approval. No formal action or funding commitment was taken at this meeting; staff will bring an ILA forward when available.
