Commission approves EGR Crew Team fundraising 'port and pencil' event for Sept. 27

The Parks and Recreation Commission approved a special-event permit for an EGR Crew Team ‘‘port and pencil’’ fundraising event proposed for Sunday, Sept. 27, to be held on the green space between the restroom building and the crew team building at John Collins Park.
Derek, the parks-and-rec director, explained the event fit within the city's special-event policy because one of September's preapproved events is a school‑sanctioned regatta and therefore exempt from the two‑events‑per‑month cap. Derek described the event: "They're proposing to have, on Sunday, September 27, to have an event in that space in between the restroom building and the the crew team building in that green space there." He said the event will be open to the community, not ticketed, will include light refreshments and a commissioned art sale, will not provide alcoholic beverages, and requires no road closures. Commissioners moved, seconded and approved the permit by voice vote.
