Dr. Scott Schwartz presented the district's FY25 Illinois School Report Card, telling the Board that both Gavin Central and Gavin South earned "Commendable" summative designations and that "our students are growing faster than the state average" in math and ELA.
Schwartz highlighted a 4% decrease in chronic absenteeism this year and said the rate is down 13% since 2022. He reviewed the accountability indicators used in summative designations (chronic absenteeism, academic growth, academic proficiency, ISA, EL proficiency, climate survey) and linked the results to recent district investments in curriculum, additional certified and paraprofessional staff, multilingual learner supports and social-emotional programming. "Our commitment to our Strategic Plan goal, to 'ensure maximum development, growth, and achievement for every learner', is working," the superintendent said.
Board members asked clarifying questions about subgroup performance and how the district will sustain gains with limited EAV growth. Staff noted that the district's small geographic footprint (about seven square miles) limits growth from new construction and that final benchmarking and cut scores were adjusted for FY25.
