The Minidoka County Joint School District Board of Trustees voted to approve several operational items at its Sept. 16, 2024 regular meeting, including revised bus safety routes, a school resource officer (SRO) agreement with the City of Rupert, and amendments to the Minico High School handbook.
Vice Chair Mary Andersen moved to approve the revised bus safety routes; Trustee Jacob Claridge seconded the motion and "motion carried," according to the minutes. Immediately afterward the board approved the Rupert City SRO agreement on a motion from Trustee Juan Perez that was seconded by Trustee Rick Kent; that motion also "carried." The board later approved an amended Minico High School handbook that adds new language on self-directed learners and options for seniors, following recommendations brought forward by Mr. Larsen and counselors.
Board members and administrators framed the handbook changes as measures to increase transparency and provide clearer pathways for seniors who need only a few credits to graduate. Superintendent's materials included a staff-developed draft of the handbook language; the minutes note that Mr. Larsen and Mrs. Austen met with counselors and administrators to develop the revisions. The handbook amendment was approved by motion of Trustee Claridge and seconded by Trustee Kent.
The approvals were taken as part of a series of business items tied to the consent and action agendas. The meeting packet and minutes list the motions and seconders; formal roll-call tallies were recorded as "Motion carried" in the minutes and individual vote counts were not listed for these items.
What’s next: The board will implement the revised bus routes, finalize the SRO agreement paperwork with the City of Rupert, and publish the updated Minico High School handbook language for staff and students.
