Salt Creek School District 48's Board of Education voted unanimously Sept. 19 to place a $48,000,000 school building bond proposition on the Nov. 5, 2024 general election ballot. Superintendent Amy M. Zaher presented the resolution and the board approved the measure by roll-call vote.
Board members said the ballot question is intended to fund long-term facility needs identified in the district's master facility assessment and in the Safe Schools / Secure Futures plans. Dr. Zaher presented the text as the official ballot resolution, noting the need to be "clear, making it official to the public" before a formal vote. The motion to adopt the resolution was moved by Mr. Blair and seconded by Mr. Dickens; all seven members voted aye.
Why it matters: the district's long-range facilities review and engineer reports, which include a mix of urgent life-safety items and larger capital projects, are driving the request for voter approval. If approved by voters, bond proceeds must be placed in the Capital Projects Fund and will be subject to the legal spending restrictions that govern construction bond proceeds.
