Resident urges Floresville ISD to fund Friday day camps for elementary students
Summary
A resident asked the board to fund a Friday day camp at North and South Elementary during school-free Fridays to help working parents and avoid long travel to Floresville; staff said the district previously set aside $100,000 and has a current allowance of $75,000 but would need to guarantee minimum slots and staffing costs.

During the workshop’s public-comments portion, a resident asked the district to fund a Friday day camp at North Elementary and South Elementary on Fridays when campuses are otherwise closed, noting transportation burdens for parents who would otherwise drive 15–20 miles to Floresville.
"I would like to see the district fund a day camp. North Elementary and South Elementary next spring for the, Friday that, we're not having school," the resident said. Staff and trustees discussed minimum-guarantee slots, past budget allocations (staff said the district previously set $100,000 in the account and reflected a $75,000 allowance in the current draft), and the need to ensure counselor staffing and minimum headcounts to avoid overcommitment.
Trustees asked staff to research cost models and minimum-staffing guarantees so the board can consider whether the district can absorb the program as part of next year’s budget.
