Lewis County Chair announced the county will raise its outdoor-use permit prices and hold a public hearing on the change. The hearing is scheduled for Aug. 4 at 5:00 p.m. on the courthouse second floor; residents may attend or submit comments to the county contact named in the meeting.
"What they settled on was $70 for a permit and $40 for a 3 day pass," the Chair said, describing the new flat pricing approach. Staff told the committee they plan to begin selling 2027 permits the Tuesday after Labor Day so all 2027 permits will carry the same price and to avoid an early-season rush.
Committee members discussed timing and the switch from a tiered discount system to straight pricing. Officials said the change eliminates previous additional discounts for multiple vehicles, and they expect some multi-vehicle customers may buy fewer permits as a result.
The Chair invited anyone with concerns to attend the Aug. 4 hearing or to submit written comments beforehand. The county expects the new pricing to be implemented for the 2027 permit season following any required local-law procedures.
