PUC adopts wholesale connection to Truckee Meadows Water Authority for Verdi's water system
Summary
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada on Sept. 25, 2025 adopted Alternative 3A — a wholesale connection to Truckee Meadows Water Authority — as the Verdi Meadows Utility Company water-system improvement plan, saying it provides the most bill certainty for ratepayers though it is not the least-cost option.

The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada voted Sept. 25, 2025 to adopt Alternative 3A — a wholesale connection to the Truckee Meadows Water Authority — as the water system improvement plan for Verdi Meadows Utility Company Inc.
Commissioner Brown presented Docket No. 22-09005 and told the panel that the draft order recommends the commission adopt Alternative 3A from the docket’s preliminary engineering report. “The commission finds that alternative 3 a provides the most certainty in the bills of verdi's ratepayers,” Brown said. He noted that, once built, the connection would allow the utility to eliminate costly portions of its existing infrastructure, including wells and storage tanks.
Commissioner Cordova said she agreed with Brown and staff, adding that the selected option “provides a nice balance for the rate payers in this area” and should move the system toward safe and reliable service. The chair seconded the motion. The commission recorded a unanimous vote in favor of the draft order and directed staff to issue the appropriate order.
The commission’s decision prioritizes bill stability over selecting the least-expensive alternative. The order declines Alternative 2A because of potential variability in customer bills and rejects Alternative 3B because of substantially higher costs. The commission did not identify a specific construction timeline in the hearing record.
