The Comal County Commissioners Court on June 26 approved electronic acceptance of a $210,000 grant from the Texas Veterans Commission for the Veterans Treatment Court and authorized a letter agreement renewing services with the Caldwell, Comal and Hays County Community Supervision and Corrections Department (CSCD).
A representative of the Veterans Treatment Court (speaker 11) said the $210,000 award matched last year's amount and that the grant will run for 14 months under the new award period; the speaker said two employees' salaries are paid through the grant and that the probation office has agreed to cover a planned raise for one probation officer so the raise would not come from grant funds. Commissioner Leacock moved to accept the grant; Commissioner Hogg seconded and the court approved the item by voice vote.
Separately, staff explained the CSCD agreement provides a probation officer to support Veterans Treatment Court operations; the court authorized the county judge to sign the renewal agreement. Presenters framed both items as essential to continuing the county's veterans-focused diversion and treatment services.
