Comal County Commissioners Court approved an order on May 22 to prohibit all outdoor burning in unincorporated areas beginning at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025. County staff reported that the relevant index had reached 508 and that conditions were worsening by 10'12 points per day, prompting the burn-ban recommendation.
The recommendation came from fire/emergency staff, who said the ban is a preventive measure in response to high temperatures and low moisture. The court passed the order by motion and second with no recorded opposition.
"At this time, I'm requesting that you'll initiate the burn ban starting tomorrow, Friday, May 23, at 6 A.M.," the staff member requesting the ban said on the record.
