Local crisis center asks Comal County for $200,000–$250,000 to expand shelter capacity

Janice Parsley, a board member and chair of the capital campaign for the Crisis Center of Comal County, told the commissioners court the center needs county support to rebuild after a 2022 fire and to expand services for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
"We are requesting $200,000 to $250,000 from Comal County to complete the campaign," Parsley said. She told the court the rebuilding project would increase bed capacity "from 24 to 90" and provide a dedicated sexual-assault nurse examination room and transitional living services. Parsley also said, "The City Of New Braunfels has committed $1,300,000 to support the capital campaign."
Parsley framed the request as part of a local safety-net expansion for survivors, citing national prevalence figures in support of the need. The request came during the citizen-comment period; the court did not take formal action on the funding request during the meeting but approved related ESG grant paperwork later in the agenda.
