City announces new planner, permitting software go‑live and interim fire chief following resignation

Community Development staff told the Planning Commission the department concluded recruitment for a second planner and that the new planner clears background checks and will start the week of Sept. 16. Staff also said the department has been implementing a new permit‑tracking software and that the system is scheduled to go live on Monday, Sept. 16; the new system will ultimately allow online submittals and inspection scheduling, though planners said online building‑permit submittals will be phased in after additional testing.
Raffi also reported a recent change at the fire department: Fire Chief McNeil resigned and Assistant Chief Randy Schafer will serve as acting fire chief until an interim chief is appointed. Staff said these staffing changes and the permit‑software go‑live should improve permit processing over time but cautioned the portal will be phased in when backend stability is assured. "The new software will go live this coming Monday," Raffi told commissioners, and staff said the rollout will begin with business licenses, engineering permits and some fire permits before adding full building and planning submittals.
