Council gives preliminary approval to 2025 budget and authorizes draft ordinance to raise fire tax

Council made a preliminary approval of the Borough’s 2025 budget on Nov. 11 and voted to advertise the proposed budget for public viewing. The preliminary budget vote carried with Council member Brady Greer recorded as opposing on the preliminary approval; the motion to advertise the budget for public review passed unanimously.
Separately, Council authorized Solicitor Samantha Craley to prepare an ordinance to increase the Fire Department tax from 0.3 mils to 0.4 mils. The authorization motion carried with one dissent by Dennis Klinedinst. Specific line-item details and the final tax ordinance will be returned to Council for formal adoption following the advertising and required public review period.
Two payment/contract items were tabled for additional information at the December meeting: a payment of $48,012.30 to Shannon A. Smith, Inc. (electrician) and a Columbia Gas estimate for a larger gas line and meter for $4,930.60; staff will present more information in December.
