Council approves Public Works collective bargaining agreement with limited new-employee insurance change

Red Lion Borough Council voted to approve a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) covering Public Works employees after discussing contract language regarding insurance for spouses of new hires. Current unit members will be able to keep spouse and family coverage even if a spouse has available employer-provided insurance; the revised provision affects new employees hired on or after Jan. 1, 2025.
Union representatives present agreed to the language changes without restarting the bargaining process, and Council approved the agreement by unanimous vote. Councilors discussed the limited scope of the change, which the Borough said applies only to new employees hired after the specified date and does not alter benefits for current employees.
Staff will incorporate the revised language into the contract documents and proceed with implementation consistent with the CBA timelines.
