Tow operator urges commissioners to drop proposed shift from weekly rotation to call‑by‑call

During the public‑comment portion of the July 10 meeting, a tow‑company representative identified in the record as Mr. Mauer asked the court to reconsider a proposed change to the Comal County towing policy that would replace the current weekly rotation with a call‑by‑call dispatch system.
"The current policy is we have a weekly rotation, and they want to take the weekly away and do a call by call...Because right now, if we have a wreck at Bo Verde, we're on call so we can get our equipment to get closer to save time...But if you change that, we're not going to know when we're going to get a call," he said, arguing that staged coverage allows many county wreck responses to be cleared in about 15–20 minutes and that a call‑by‑call system could increase arrival times toward the county's 45‑minute window.
Mr. Mauer said towing companies had discussed the proposal at a recent meeting and several oppose how the plan "looks now." He asked commissioners to reconsider the proposal before it is formally submitted to the court. The court took no immediate action on the comment itself; the remark was recorded during the citizen‑comment period.
