McHenry honors Fire Chief Rudy Horace with distinguished service award

The City of McHenry presented a distinguished service award to Chief Rudy Horace of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, honoring his service to the district from 06/17/2010 through 06/17/2026. Kishan Ahmad read the award citation and recognized Horace’s leadership and partnership with McHenry police and city staff.
"Chief Horace is hereby presented this distinguished service award in recognition of more than 16 years of exemplary service to the city of McHenry and all those who live, work, and visit our community," Kishan Ahmad said as he presented the plaque. Horace, who addressed the council after the presentation, said he was grateful for the opportunity to serve and reflected on a 43-year career in the fire service.
Horace, identified in the meeting as chief of the McHenry Township Fire Protection District, highlighted his pride in working with city staff on safety initiatives and recent projects including a new station and a training facility. "I am extremely grateful that the last 16 years of my 43-year career were spent here at McHenry," he said.
The presentation included the award text listing Horace’s service dates and badge number; the council offered well wishes and asked staff to work with Horace and district leadership as he begins retirement transition.
