Board reviews Ed Specs plan tied to Proposition 2 and approves construction-management contract for school projects

Board President Laura Symon and Chief Business Official Dr. Kay Vang led discussion of the district's facilities planning work at the Sept. 11 St. Helena Unified School District board meeting.
Dr. Kay Vang said the district will use Proposition 2 funding to develop Educational Specifications that align school facilities with educational programs and that "the cost for the District to implement this is $35,000." Presenters Trent Sommer of Motive Studio and John Dilena of Greystone West described a plan to develop those Ed Specs. A draft Facilities Master Plan (FMP) was provided for board review; Dr. Vang said a final FMP will be returned to the Board for approval at a later date.
Trustees also considered and approved a professional services agreement for construction management covering the St. Helena Elementary School roof, drainage and HVAC projects and the St. Helena High School portable removal projects. The motion to approve the agreement passed unanimously, with Trustee Lisa Pelosi making the motion and Trustee Shawn Moura seconding.
The Board did not take final action on the FMP itself; staff will bring a finalized plan back for formal adoption. The approved construction-management contract permits staff to move forward with project oversight and scheduling while the district completes specification work and final planning.
