Town staff presents plan to clear inactive committees; subcommittee agrees to move three toward disbanding

James, a town staff member, told the Boards and Commissions Review Subcommittee on Aug. 3 that he compiled the history of the town's resolutions and included recommendations to remove or flag committees that have completed their work.
"So, the affordable housing committee... the formal work of that committee has really been done," James said, recommending the age-restricted housing study committee be disbanded after its final report is filed. He told members the packet includes each resolution and any related agreements, and that many study committees are single-use bodies that should be cleaned off the books when their work ends.
The subcommittee tentatively agreed that three committees could be cleared without further debate: the affordable age-restricted housing study committee, the Newington Housing Needs Study Committee, and the PMBC ordinance review subcommittee. Councilor Teniakos and other members recommended staff provide Administrative Letter 41 (the town's internal social-media guidance) for review before deciding whether to formalize that policy or disband the social media subcommittee.
Subcommittee members also asked staff to research representation on the regional Central Connecticut Health District and to check whether the Board of Education has final reports and closeout documentation for several school projects dating to a bond-era program. The meeting ended after a motion to adjourn passed with voice vote.
