Resident raises tax concerns, asks if Lake Como remains a sanctuary city; mayor responds

During the public-comment portion of the March 18 meeting, Barbara Frank of 22nd Avenue told the council she had heard that Lake Como 'has one of the highest taxes' and said her own tax bill rose about 9 percent. Mayor Higgins responded that it was increases in property assessments that were driving up bills even though the council has continued to lower the municipal tax rate.
Frank also asked whether Lake Como remains a sanctuary city. Mayor Higgins replied that New Jersey is a 'Sanctuary State' and that Lake Como did not choose to go against the state. No further action or formal vote on local immigration policy occurred at the meeting.
