CTE update: fewer certification attempts but higher pass rates; construction management grows

High-school CTE staff told the board that the number of industry-based certification (IVC/IBC) attempts dropped from 732 to 528, a change they attributed to reduced duplicate testing and higher overall pass rates. A presenter explained that as students pass certifications on the first try, the system requires fewer retests and the total test administration falls, even as the number of successful certifications rises.
The district also reported program-level changes: the construction management pathway was added and nearly tripled course requests this year (about 67 requests), prompting plans for more sections; and the health science program recorded almost a 100% pass rate on industry certifications. Trustees discussed aligning curriculum with industry requirements and continuing outreach to employers for practicum and certification opportunities.
