Sharon Lawrence of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) presented a proclamation to the council designating April as National Child Abuse Prevention Month and described CASA’s activities and the importance of preventing and reporting child maltreatment. The council unanimously moved to have Mayor DeVere sign the proclamation.
Mayor DeVere read the proclamation in full during the meeting, stressing that "we must work together as a community to increase awareness about child abuse." The council recorded the unanimous vote to have the mayor sign the proclamation; no implementation tasks beyond the signature were recorded in the minutes.
The proclamation is intended as a community-awareness measure highlighting CASA’s role and encouraging reporting of suspected child abuse to police or appropriate authorities.
