Committee removes grant stipulations for four public-health positions

The Orange County Personnel and Compensation Committee approved removing grant stipulations from four public-health positions on April 20, allowing those employees to perform surveillance and other duties across the Sexual Health Unit.
Robert C. Sassi moved to make the following positions non-stipulated so they can carry out surveillance activities in addition to partner-services work: Receptionist Sp/Eng #027005; Public Health Investigator/VD #045773; Public Health Investigator/VD #013615; and Public Health Investigator/VD Sp/Eng #045774. The motion was seconded by Kathy Stegenga and recorded as carried with "all in favor." Lisa K. Lahiff, Deputy Commissioner of Health, said removing the stipulation will let the employees "do the work of the entire department in their Sexual Health Unit as opposed to a very narrow part of the work they perform," and that the county will continue to use the grant funds to support the roles.
Lahiff told the committee the Disease Intervention and Expanded Partner Services grant is currently "in year five of five" and emphasized the high disease rate in Orange County to justify the continued need for the work. Committee members were told no additional county funding is required at this time.
