Airport staff reported a weed-sprayer failure that allowed herbicide into the cab of a vehicle and soaked cloth seats. The employee was wearing personal protective equipment and avoided exposure to the face, and the truck was taken for cleaning.
"The hose got loose inside one of our trucks... it could have been bad. Luckily, JP was wearing PPE, so he didn't get hit right in the face with it," the Airport Director said. The county weed department has been contacted to inspect equipment and recommend safer quick-connects or training. Staff said they may replace cloth seats or use vinyl covers as a temporary mitigation while they evaluate whether the vehicle should be used for spraying.
The board was told the truck was being aired in the sun and cleaning was underway while officials await guidance on fumes absorbed into cloth seats.
