Thousand Oaks police and Sheriff's Office brief Oak Park on e-bike laws and enforcement shifts

The Thousand Oaks Police Department provided a presentation on California e-bike laws, the three e-bike classes, helmet and age requirements, where e-bikes may operate, distinctions from electric motorcycles and motorized scooters, and recent state law changes. The presentation outlined enforcement strategies and educational resources for parents and riders.
Council members thanked the department for outreach. Brian Trushinski asked whether additional outreach to parents is planned; the Sheriff's Office said School Resource Officers are distributing information in schools and noted enforcement has transitioned from education to a "zero-tolerance enforcement phase." The Sheriff's Office encouraged residents to report unsafe groups by calling the Ventura County Sheriff's Office so deputies can respond, and staff noted that Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District rangers handle enforcement within parks and trails when appropriate.
