Board hears completion of large apron project and ongoing pavement rehab

Lochner consultant Judd Hill told the Board the recently completed aircraft parking apron expansion includes approximately 10,300 square yards of concrete pavement and 11,000 square yards of asphalt pavement, creating more than 21,000 square yards of new aircraft parking area.
Hill said the contractor removed and replaced pavement sections that did not meet project specifications at the contractor's expense after concrete quality issues delayed portions of the work. Hill also reported that the pavement rehabilitation project is progressing ahead of schedule: milling operations are complete for the initial phase and reconstruction in front of the hangars will use six inches of new asphalt. Board and staff discussed logistical challenges such as transporting concrete to the airport and the opportunity to assess liquidated damages once all final testing results are received.
