Orange County approves $2.4M mobile command vehicle and upgrades to 911 and emergency services

On April 10 the Orange County Legislature approved a suite of measures to bolster emergency response capabilities. Bond Resolution No. 111 authorized acquisition of an Emergency Services/Emergency Management mobile command vehicle at an estimated cost of $2,400,000. Separately, Bond Resolution No. 110 authorized $370,000 for E911 Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system hardware and county 911 computers. The Legislature also authorized $50,000 in bonds for engineering and design of a new Emergency Services equipment garage in Goshen and adopted a SEQRA negative declaration for the garage project earlier in the session.
The Legislature accepted a $200,000 grant from the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services for the Radiological Emergency Preparedness program. The grant language specified use for expanded drone operations, personnel training, improved incident readiness, mobility for challenging environments, and flood monitoring/early warning systems. Budget lines and capital account codes were recorded in the minutes; all measures passed with recorded unanimous support where votes were recorded.
