Prosecutor fines one resident $1,500; council follows up on multiple violation notices

The town prosecutor told the council that a Notice and Order to Correct served on Higginbotham at 604 Madison resulted in a $1,500 fine for failing to appear in court and that criminal charges remain possible. Attorney Jeff Slothower noted that a nuisance cannot be converted to a property lien unless the town abates the violation first and that the court then handles collections.
Councilmembers reviewed additional code-enforcement items: a 45-day progress check on a Notice and Order to Correct for Adcox at 608 Washington, and recently mailed or hand-delivered violation notices issued May 12, 2026 for properties at 608 Garfield (Hougardy) and 402 Washington (Dan Rush). Clerk Luanne will follow up with the prosecutor about the Adcox progress check.
