Resident asks council to make Fernwood Road one-way; mayor cites evacuation route constraint

During public comment at the April 15 meeting, Jack DiSilva of Fernwood Road asked the Mayor and Council to consider converting Fernwood Road to one-way toward the lake and 18th Avenue to one-way toward the ocean, with parking on both sides. DiSilva said that many high school students park on Fernwood because Main Street has two-hour parking restrictions.
Mayor Higgins responded that 18th Avenue is a coastal evacuation route and therefore changing it to one-way would not be workable. He also explained that two-hour parking on Main Street is intended to help businesses by increasing turnover for patrons. The council took no formal action during the public comment period; the floor was closed after the exchange and the council later entered executive session and reconvened with nothing to report publicly.
