Key items included a new BP/AR on placement and mathematics courses (which clarifies that the district offers math pathways and uses multiple measures for placement but does not prescribe exact pathways), updated language tying science instruction to the California Next Generation Science Standards, additions to history-social science including workplace readiness week, incorporation of ethnic studies/ACES resources into course lists, and an administrative-regulation addition to embed mental-health skills across grades 1–12.
The presenters also outlined an operational step to ensure all 12th graders receive information and help completing the FAFSA or California Dream Act application unless families opt out. Dr. Benjamin said information about pathways, protocols and appeals will be posted on the district website and that teachers and counselors receive training to support placements. The BP/AR updates are scheduled to return for board action on 09/10 (a date correction was noted in the meeting). Board members broadly supported the updates and asked for additional study-session follow-ups, particularly on math placement.
