The Draper Tree Committee agreed to pursue an Arbor Day planting this spring and identified roughly $30,000 to spend on new trees and associated costs. "So we have $30,000 available," Chair David Flower said, explaining the total combines a rolled $10,000 purchase, a $10,000 2025 budget allocation and a $10,000 private donation earmarked for visible park plantings.
Members discussed whether to do a symbolic single-tree ceremony or a larger community planting in partnership with Tree Utah. Staff and volunteers said the nursery has committed trees but has not yet purchased them, leaving flexibility to re-specify species for a consolidated site. The committee also discussed using part of the funds to hire a contractor to plant trees on park strips so liability and traffic-control permits would be handled by the contractor and nurseries could provide warranties.
The committee tasked staff to provide an irrigation map and the current list of purchased species for members to review before deciding which locations will receive new trees and which trees should be replaced as routine maintenance.
