Taos County commissioners approved a personnel reclassification in the Solid Waste Department to formalize recycling coordination. Edward Martinez of Solid Waste told the commission the county wants to reclassify the code enforcement officer position to add recycling coordinator duties for Lorenzo Gutierrez and move one transfer‑station attendant into the recycling coordinator/code enforcement specialist role.
Martinez said recycling volumes are rising and the county is shipping material to regional processors; the reclassification will increase salary and benefits for fiscal year 2025–26 to reflect added responsibilities. Commissioners praised the Solid Waste team for their work and moved to approve the reclassifications; the motion passed by roll call.
Staff said interviews are underway for additional recycling attendants to help manage the volume and that they will report back on throughput figures when available.
