Taos County approves $800,000 change order for historic courthouse project

County officials told the commission that unexpected damage on the Historic County Courthouse project required restoring previously removed work and authorized an $800,000 change order.
"This change order is, for a grant we received," said Richard Sanchez, the project representative, who described reinstating exterior stucco and sidewalk work removed earlier to keep the project within budget. Mr. Sanchez said the project had experienced unanticipated damage and scope reductions earlier, and that the new funding will return some of that scope.
County staff later clarified funding sources. A county representative said the project received a state grant allocation (which staff described as coming from a new DFA program for capital projects) and the county used reserves to cover the remaining amount. "So we got $600,000 there... and then we did our reserves for the remaining $200,000," one staffer said during the discussion. Commissioners moved to approve the change order and the motion passed.
