Cassandra presented a proposal to start a monthly "trail mixers" program to introduce residents and visitors to local trails and to highlight recent maintenance work. Committee members discussed frequency, start dates and logistics and agreed to a pilot start in September.
"So our golden would be September," Cassandra said, proposing Sunday, Sept. 13 as a tentative first event, and offering to coordinate publicity and logistics. Members debated Saturday vs. Sunday start times and whether to require sign-ups; the committee favored keeping attendance open while adding parking and carpool guidance to event notices.
Cassandra proposed handing out small prepackaged trail-mix packets at events and reported initial pricing: "it looks like $13 I can get... 24," referring to an example pack price for about two dozen samples. Jillian said the city could purchase the snacks using the city's account to avoid reimbursements and to take advantage of tax-exempt purchasing.
The committee agreed Cassandra would finalize locations and promotional materials and return with a final plan at the August meeting. The first proposed route is Laguna Point with access to Iron Mountain; subsequent events would rotate to other trailheads depending on readiness.
