Director says fire-department fuels crew begins mitigation on Oak Place parcel

Jillian, the committee director for the city's open-space program, told the Open Space Advisory Committee on July 27 that the fire department has hired a three-person fuels crew that will begin fuels mitigation tomorrow on a small open-space parcel on Oak Place.
"They're starting in one of our open space parcels," Jillian said, describing the crew as the department's first official project and noting the work will include clearing dead wood and removing materials from the property. She added the crew will be supervised by the fire department and that staff will meet the crew on-site to show the property.
Committee members asked for more regular communication about the crews' schedule and suggested the city publish a work plan or newsletter item so residents know who is working on mitigation projects and why. Jillian agreed to request the crew's work plan and said staff could share it with the committee ahead of monthly meetings so members can answer resident questions or pass along compliments.
The announcement also prompted a discussion about whether the crews would bring a burn box or other equipment; Jillian said she would meet the crew at 8:30 a.m. the next day to confirm logistics.
