The Kings County Board of Supervisors voted Aug. 4 to approve a retroactive five‑year agreement between Kings County Fire and the city of Corcoran to continue county‑provided fire services, with an option for a five‑year extension.
Kings County Fire Chief John Chamberlain told the board, “What you have before you today is a retroactive 5 year agreement, with an option for a 5 year extension,” and laid out the fiscal terms: the city will see an increase this fiscal year of roughly "$288,417" and the city’s new contribution for the year will be "$1,025,710." Chamberlain said the total operational cost for station 11 is about "$1,900,000, and change, 1,980,000." He also described collaborative provisions including shared inspections, CDBG funding dedicated by the city for new apparatus, and a joint effort to pursue grants to replace a 110‑year‑old fire station.
City Manager Gatska thanked the chief and said improved coordination already had benefits during a recent false alarm that county dispatch handled efficiently. Board members praised the professionalism and asked that informal understandings be reflected in the written agreement. A motion to approve was moved, seconded and carried on roll call; the clerk recorded affirmative votes from the supervisors present. The agreement will return to the city for an additional approval step and the county’s legal and risk reviews will be incorporated before final execution.
