West Linn library presents strategic‑planning survey: patrons value print collections, want more evening/weekend programs

Rebecca Mayer, the library manager, opened the meeting and Sarah, the assistant library director, presented draft results of the West Linn Library strategic‑planning survey, saying the library received responses from about 500 community members and that "95% of them had a library, Clackamas County Library card, which was pretty impressive." The draft also showed "97% of respondents said the library is a valuable community resource," Sarah added. Board members were asked to review the draft before staff share results more widely with library staff, city administration and the city council.
Sarah summarized usage patterns and priorities that emerged from the survey: roughly 60% of respondents visit the library more than once a month; physical collections, holds pickup and friendly staff were top-rated services; and many patrons signaled interest in more weekend and evening programming and multilingual offerings. "81% is a lot of people who want to have the materials," Doug, the library director, said when describing demand for print materials alongside growing interest in digital resources. The board discussed aligning program schedules to better match patron availability and using the survey feedback to refine the library's strategic plan.
