Measure U update: Piedmont parking and Vinci Park jobs out to bid; warehouse utility issues delay schedule

The district’s bond and facilities director updated trustees on Measure U construction work and schedule changes.
He showed recent demolition at 945 Piedmont Road and said the board awarded the Piedmont site-improvement contract to Silicon Valley for $607,500. "Right now, we have the Vinci Park modernization... going out to bid December 17," he said. He described planned TK playground fencing and classroom reconfigurations at multiple 'sister' elementary sites and ongoing public‑address and security upgrades across campuses.
The director warned of a delay at the USD warehouse project after encountering conflicts with a water line, gas line and the main fiber path. "We are currently working with AT and T to figure out a different route, and that's gonna put us behind probably almost 6 to 8 weeks," he told the board. Staff said they are rerouting fiber and coordinating with PG&E for utility tie‑ins.
Trustees asked about parking reconfiguration at Piedmont, replacement of curb barriers at Noble for safety, and maintenance plans for HVAC and winter readiness. The director said new package HVAC units and ongoing preventative maintenance should limit winter failures and that the district keeps spare parts and portable heaters where needed.
Trustees thanked staff for the work; the director said gender‑neutral restroom signage had begun installation and that several projects are nearing completion.
