Council OKs three-month lease extension for treatment-plant screen while repairs continue

Public Works staff asked the council to authorize a three-month extension of a lease with Ovivo for a micro-screen used at the wastewater treatment plant while repairs to the headworks proceed. Bob Greenlaw told council the lease extension would not exceed $40,000 and that "every payment that we make for our lease goes and reduces down if we eventually purchase that equipment."
Staff explained the headworks and rotary screens failed earlier in the year and that repairs are underway: concrete repairs have been poured and final coating work is forthcoming before the mechanical guts are reinstalled. Staff estimated about 60 more days to complete concrete work and said the short lease extension provides continuity for plant operations while the permanent repairs are finished. Council authorized the extension by vote.
