Southgate Council adopts three tax-rate ordinances, all pass unanimously

On Sept. 4, 2024 the City of Southgate approved Ordinances 24-09, 24-10 and 24-11 to set the real/property, firehouse, and motor-vehicle/boat tax rates after second readings; all votes were 6-0.
The City of Southgate Council on Sept. 4 approved three ordinances setting the city's property-related tax rates following second readings.
Ordinance 24-09 (establishing the real and personal property tax rate), Ordinance 24-10 (firehouse tax rate) and Ordinance 24-11 (motor vehicle and boat tax rate) each passed on motions with roll-call votes recorded as Aye 6, Nay 0. Motions and seconds recorded in the minutes were Wegener/Melville for 24-09; Wegener/Okura for 24-10; and Anderson/Lycans for 24-11.
The approvals followed the public hearing earlier in the meeting in which City Clerk Brandi Barton read the tax rates for the record. Council members noted that rising property valuations, driven in part by new homes at Memorial Pointe, helped reduce the tax rates this year, Mayor James Hamberg said. The council did not record any amendments to the ordinances during the meeting.
The items conclude the legislative action on tax rates for the current fiscal cycle; the ordinances carry the numbers shown in the minutes (24-09, 24-10 and 24-11) and were adopted by unanimous vote.
