Superintendent Dr. Rivera told the board that Weslaco ISD was awarded a $644,000 grant to strengthen district cybersecurity and a $308,000 JET grant to purchase CTE equipment. Rivera credited the technology and business teams for securing the awards and said equipment purchases for libraries and classrooms are being funded from the district fund balance.
Rivera also highlighted progress on the Teacher Incentive Allotment, saying the district moved from zero to "almost 200" teachers designated under the program compared with the prior year. "I'm happy to report that almost 200 teachers have been designated," Rivera said. Trustees congratulated staff and said they hoped to expand the cohort next year.
District leaders said the grants and the improved budget position (about 44% of current year spending to date) will help close equipment and program gaps without immediate tax increases.
