Commission OKs $100,000 county match for library renovation

Bradley County commissioners voted 5-0 to move $100,000 from fund balance into capital outlay as the county’s share of a Tucker Foundation grant supporting renovation of the county historical branch library. The board was told the foundation has committed $200,000 and the county and city would each match half. "We will be starting with the sunroom," Library Director Keisha Parks said, adding that the sunroom is "the space to the left of the door."
Parks told the commission the overall project currently is estimated at about $453,000 before additional deterioration is fully assessed, and the architect included a 20% contingency. Commissioners asked whether the foundation has raised supplemental funds; Parks said the campaign is only starting and that the foundation expects to continue fundraising and will reallocate existing foundation funds for library needs if required. The motion was made and seconded on the record and passed 5-0.
