Superintendent Kim said the district will work with administrators and staff to "create a balanced budget for 2526 that supports student achievement, while still maintaining a 2 to $3,000,000 ending fund balance." She told the board the budget conversation will be informed by the governor's upcoming budget release.
Board members pressed on cost pressures the district faces. Kim said the district has some deferred facilities needs that could add "probably 500 to $1,000,000 worth of debt" to the next biennium and noted that PERS costs are expected to rise. She said bargaining with licensed staff is planned for the spring and emphasized transparency about tradeoffs if more state funding arrives.
Several members praised the clarity of the fiscal goal and the coordination among Kim, administrators and the business office; one member noted the district must closely monitor administrative and special-fund spending to free resources for classroom priorities.
