"The 2 applicants that we were presented today both seem to have a a strong tie to mountain biking and cycling. Is there a concern that this will lean the board into a niche focus?" a council member asked, expressing concern that too many biking‑oriented members could narrow the board's perspective. Other members said a candidate with mountain‑bike advocacy experience could bring valuable subject‑matter expertise and that the town planner can help ensure balanced agendas.
Council moved and approved appointing both candidates to the two alternate positions; staff noted the Trails & Open Space board is still establishing its operating cadence and that alternates will participate in meetings. Council also discussed tracking participation and considering whether the board’s size should be adjusted in the future if attendance or function suggests a change.
